A Parliamentary Panel has taken exception to the fee hike by the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and asked as to why IIMs should raise their fees without waiting for the report of the Bhargava Committee, set up to review functioning of the institutes. The Bhargava Committee under Maruti Udyog Limited Chairman R C Bhargava was appointed in October 2007 to submit a review of functioning of IIMs within six months. Review would include existing fee structure in IIMs.

Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), specifically IIM-Ahmedabad (IIM-A), which have announced a steep hike in their fees last week are unlikely to revise (scale down) the new fee structures.Vijaypat Singhania, the chairman of the governing council of IIM-Ahmedabad who met Minister of Human Resource Development Arjun Singh, justified the fee hike and said they would take steps to ensure that all deserving students get into the premier institution.

After Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), the nation's premier IITs may see a hike in tuition fees, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Monday. Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh said the Standing Committee of IIT Council (SCIC) has recommended an increase in the tuition fee for B Tech and M Tech courses. The Board of Governors (BoG) of six IIMs located at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore and Kozhikode had decided to increase the fees of the PGP.
